About this tour
This half-day walking tour explores the surviving history of the Ang Yi, the Chinese secret societies that once wielded great influence in Bangkok's Chinatown. Walking with a guide, you learn why Thailand outlawed them and how their hidden world shaped the city's Chinese heritage.
The route takes in historic Chinese shrines, century-old houses and narrow alleys across Talat Noi and Yaowarat. Highlights include a shrine that once had a secret tunnel to the river, a 220-year-old house that belonged to an Ang Yi leader, and a shrine courtyard once used for martial arts training. The tour also touches on Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who visited Thailand and met Chinese revolutionary supporters, including members of local brotherhoods.
The tour is guided in Thai by a history expert from The Wild Chronicles. It starts at MRT Wat Mangkon, Exit 1, and runs from about 13:15 to 17:00. Group size is up to 22.
