About this tour
The First Recipe is a special history seminar by The Wild Chronicles on the world's first recipes. The oldest known recipes were written in cuneiform on clay tablets in ancient Babylon, almost 4,000 years ago.
The talk covers the civilisation of Mesopotamia, the discovery of the first recipe inscriptions, what people in ancient times ate, and famous ancient recipes from around the world. Along the way you will hear how early beer was shared through straws, how Roman cooking used fish sauce in nearly every course, and that noodles, steamed dumplings and buns appear in recipe books from the Song dynasty.
Participants also taste two dishes recreated from Babylonian-era recipes. The seminar takes place on Saturday 2 August 2025, 13:00-16:15, in The Pinwheel room on the lobby floor of Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15. The fee is 3,000 baht per person and seats are limited.
Included
- Lecture by a history speaker
- Two dishes from Babylonian-era recipes
